EMERGEANDSEE 2010
media arts festival

Since its beginnings back in the year 2000, EMERGEANDSEE defined its very own role as an independent platform for international young audiovisual projects. We pursue the interchange of ideas and values between media artists and theorists from all over the world.

For its 10th anniversary, EMERGEANDSEE has redefined its concept and completed the shift from a pure short film event to a hybrid festival: Film screening, audiovisual exhibition and lectures will focus on a new topic every year. This time, at charming Stattbad Wedding, our three sections join forces and reflect on Hybrid Metropolis: in between spaces.

EMERGEANDSEE is completely independent and run by students who feel committed to support filmmakers and media artists and to show the world their latest work. Of course, aesthetics matter, but a good idea is much more important to us than technical perfection.
Hybrid Metropolis: in between spaces

What does it mean for our cultural self, when stories, languages, memories, relations, mentalities and animosities are overlaid and combined? How do you experience borders — between nations, within social norms and values? Where do you find your own concept, your own place?

We presented works that deal with the way that identity and cultural backgrounds are experienced. We chose an urban perspective and look at our cities as laboratories in which social processes are negotiated. Our contemporary lives take place in the in-between: the unknown becomes a home, the known turns into the unknown again, and the state of travelling replaces the concept of a static, regional home.
